I came across a Craiglist ad for a broken Super Off Road game. No pictures, no other explanation. The listing stated that the highest offer by the end of the night could have the game. I shoot the guy a really lowball offer expecting to not hear from him again. I was wrong.

He calls me and said I can come pick it up. Later that evening I tried to make arrangements to come get the game. I get no answer. I'm pretty sure he was trying to make another deal for more money. The next day he calls and says I can come get it again. I take off immediately to pick up the game so he doesn't have a chance to back out. I load up the game and take it home. Next I open up the cabinet to survey the damage. I was surprised by what I saw.

Everything inside the cabinet was disconnected and flopping around. Apparently the seller forgot to mention to me that he tried some very poor do-it-yourself repair. The monitor AC line was hand wired into 1 wire, not 2 separate AC wires. Why? I don't know. The power supply was rattling inside its metal cage and the monitor board was hanging from the tube. So I get everything hooked up, wired properly and surprisingly enough I get it all running. I get the monitor up, get it tweaked with a good picture (Thank God, I didn't want to replace a 25 inch monitor) and try to play the game.

No steering. A beautifully working game and all 3 steering wheels didn't work. I check connectors and they were all good. After much troubleshooting there was a 7414 IC chip in each steering wheel board that was half bad. I swap some pins around and get all the steering working again. I have a feeling at some point this guy hooked up the steering wheel connectors wrong and blew the IC chips in all 3 steering boards. Oh yeah, and all coin door bulbs and marquee bulb was blown when I got it. They are always blown. ALWAYS.

Anyways, it is now fully working, and I got this game for a song and a prayer. This game has some awesome 3 player action and the steering wheelsystem is top notch. This one is definitely a keeper!
